An Iron History Going Back Generations
Our origins at Accent Ornamental Iron & Powder Coating Company date back to 1949 – that’s over 65 years of iron-smithing experience.

It was in 1947 when 16-year old Stanley Stylski, the son of a Polish immigrant, began his blacksmithing career, working for William G. Bisel in his ornamental iron shop. In 1949, Stanley (at age 18), along with his new partner Joe Leijher, started Modern Ironworks. In 1950, Stanley sold his half interest to his partner to proudly serve the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

In 1952, after his tour of duty, Stanley returned to Modern Iron Works. In 1964, he left Modern Iron Works to start another ornamental iron business, Allied Iron Works. His oldest son, Michael Stylski, also began working for Allied Iron Works in 1964 at the ripe-old-age of seven, and was a full-time employee by the age of 16. Michael continued to work with his father until he was 25, when he decided to explore other career paths. For the next five years Michael would be employed in unrelated fields.

In 1988, he returned to the ornamental iron business and started his own company – Accent Ornamental Iron. Michael was the sole employee, operating the business from a two-car garage in Anoka, MN. In 1991 he moved his family and business to Cambridge, MN, where he continued operations from two large pole buildings on the family’s 40-acre farm. In 1997 Stanley Stylski, still operating Allied Iron Works, passed away. Michael combined Allied Iron Works’ customers and assets with his own company. With this merger, Accent Ornamental Iron proudly continued to serve many third generation customers originating all the way back to Modern Iron Works. At this same time the third generation of Stylskis – Michael’s son, Michael Jr. – began to take a more active, full-time role within the company.

In 2004 our company, Accent Ornamental Iron, made its final move to a 10,000 square foot commercial facility in the heart of downtown Cambridge, MN. The move was followed by the addition of our powder coating services in 2005, which currently provides powder coating for several other ornamental iron fabricators residing in and around the twin cities metro area. The following year, in 2006, Michael Sr.’s wife, Kelly Olene-Stylski, joined the team as the CFO and Business Manager.

In recent years the number of Stylski family members employed within the company has expanded. In 2017, Michael Sr.'s youngest daughter, Laura, joined the company and is managing our Customer Care Center, specializing in Sales and Accounts Receivables.

Today Accent Ornamental Iron & Powder Coating Company has grown from a one-man business, into a multi-service, regionally recognized operation. Now more than ever, our third-generation iron company is dedicated to providing the best customer service in the industry. Our mission to our customers is the continuous improvement of our abilities to meet their needs and to exceed their expectations at every opportunity. We thank you for your interest in our services and look forward to working with you soon.
